OUR BEGINNINGS...
The Watauga Chapter of the Tennessee Society, Sons of the American Revolution, was chartered March 3, 2007 in Elizabethton, TN. The Charter Chapter President, Ronnie Lail, was a force of untiring vision and leadership. Within a short time, a color guard was formed, and the chapter was marking Patriot graves around the area. A Children of the American Revolution society was formed in 2009. Compatriot Lail possessed a desire to include anyone that would like to experience SAR into the chapter. He reached out into the historic community welcoming all that wanted to experience his vision and SAR. |

Watauga became synonymous for being a family friendly, all-inclusive group. The Watauga Chapter has ever since supported other like-minded organizations and many of our members share in multiple groups. Our membership includes individuals from not only East Tennessee, but Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina, and Northern Georgia.
Lail’s ultimate legacy for the chapter was “The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals.” First held in 2008, it became a state SAR event in 2009 and a national SAR event in 2010. It remains the only national SAR event in Tennessee. One mans passion for history, for seeing a story told, for including all others who want to belong, that is the Watauga Chapter.
We are proud to carry on our proud traditions and to be a part of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution. We hope that you will contact us and start down your path to membership.
